Boil-water advisory issued in Hillsborough County

A drinking water advisory has been issued for some customers in northwest Hillsborough County.

December 27, 2023 Hillsborough County – Water Resources HCPUD is issuing a boil water advisory for some customers in the Northwest Drinking Water System.

Minimum water pressure in the county's water distribution system dropped below the required regulatory level in some areas of the water system due to a water main break, requiring a boil water advisory to be issued in Hillsborough County.

The notice advises customers to boil all tap water used for cooking, drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. It is sufficient to boil the water completely for about a minute; After boiling, cool the boiled water before using it. Apart from this, before washing clothes, let the water run till it runs clear. Automated ice makers have also been asked to remove any ice. Bottled water can be used as an alternative.

Although there is no indication of contamination at this time, customers and businesses are still advised to boil water as a precautionary measure.

Approximately 23,368 commercial connections are affected by the precautionary boil water notice.

Residents will be notified of the revocation of the precautionary boil water notice in the same manner as it was issued after all necessary testing has been completed.
