Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi and parts of North India this afternoon. The intensity of this earthquake was low due to which there was no loss of life or property. This earthquake was noted in Dili after Afghanistan. The intensity of the earthquake in Afghanistan was 6.1 magnitude. The tremors of this earthquake were also felt in Pakistan.
"Earthquake of intensity: 6.1, 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Latitude: 36.48 & Longitude: 70.45, Depth: 220 km, Location: Afghanistan," the National Center for Seismology said in a statement.
The National Center for Seismology said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul.
However, there was no news of any injury or financial loss.
There was an atmosphere of panic among the people due to the tremors of this earthquake, many people in the capital Delhi and surrounding areas reported shaking of furniture.
Such earthquakes keep occurring in Afghanistan or its surrounding areas and are mostly caused by the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates with each other.
Because in rural areas of Afghanistan, houses are made of mud. These houses are built around wooden pillars. There is little use of steel or concrete in these houses. The entire family of these people lives under one roof.
In 2023, a series of earthquakes hit the country, killing more than 1,000 people.
Delhi and the National Capital Region fall under seismic zone IV, these areas are very sensitive. The Delhi government is also considering proposals to create its own State Disaster Response Force or SDRF and set up a control room involving staff from multiple agencies, furthering its objective of improving disaster preparedness in the national capital.
